SIR PATRICK GEDDES MEMORIAL TRUST STUDENT AWARDS SCHEME 2009-2010

The Trust is delighted to launch its Students Awards Scheme for the coming year.
Since the scheme started in 2002 some £3,000 has been disbursed to around 50 students and we hope that the next round will see more entries submitted. Remember no additional work is required to enter the competition. Course leaders are invited to send in examples of students normal course work that reflects some aspect of the Geddes principle of "place, work, folk". As well as a monetary prize for four awards for students at different stages in their courses, current publications on Patrick Geddes are handed over and there is the chance to participate in the Scottish Government's Scottish Awards for Quality in Planning ceremony at which the Planning Minister presents the awards. The day's event is also suitably recorded in the Journal of the RTPI in Scotland.

Full details of the scheme are set out here, but if there are any queries do not hesitate to get in touch with mikeaffolter@btinternet.com and he will be pleased to help.

The Trust looks forward to receiving a bumper crop of nominations for the prizes available from regular and new participants to the scheme.

Launch of the Student Awards' Scheme for 2008-2009

The Trust was very pleased with the response from university departments in 2007-2008 to the awards' scheme. Entries are now invited for the next round of awards. Details of the scheme remain unchanged with the emphasis on course work that resonates well with Patrick Geddes thinking. The Trust is grateful for the time and effort university departments put into the submission of nominations and hopes that it will receive another good response in the scheme's seventh year.

Entries for the next round of awards are now invited. Details of the scheme and an application form are set out here. The Trust is seeking a good response from a number of universities and from a range of disciplines.

The closing date for entries/nominations is 28 November 2008 with the prospect of an awards ceremony to be held in association with the Scottish Government's 2008 Scottish Awards for Quality in Planning awards' ceremony at the Hub, Castlehill, Edinburgh on 12 March 2009.
